This book tells the true story of Swedish Artist Berta Hansson inspired by her paintings, letters and diaries. It is told from the young girls perspective trapped on a farm by traditional expectations for a woman at this time. She seeks solace in her artwork which gives her sick mother pleasure. When her mother dies, her sorrow takes over but there is a lovely relationship with the Doctor who is the only person who appreciates her art. It is remarkable. A feast for the eyes, I felt like I had taken a tour around an art gallery by the time I was finished having seen her paintings and studied her life. The narrative is simple, honest and gritty. A very Powerful read for adults and young readers. Great for year 6 pupils and older to explore. A great black and white biography at the end. A wonderful gift. Lovely size and quality, everything about it is thoughtful and exquisite.
